I know it has been awhile but Art Papers is back an with interesting updates especially for Caribbean artists! All artists should browse through 'Opportunities' and read about the VISA FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS 2007 PROGRAMME. The Commonwealth Arts and Crafts Awards are also calling for applications. And for February, CCA7 welcomes three new artists on its residency programme and Studio Film Club is back!

CCA would like to welcome the following Artists-in-Residence who have joined us in February:

Christopher Irons - Jamaica

Our residency artists are getting more involved in the community, hosting workshops and interacting with students. If you are interested in contacting or collaborating with any of our artists please contact the Exchange Programme Coordinator at CCA7.

CCA will issue emails in the first week of March with details of each artist and their work along with images. Please write to jleeloy@cca7.org if you would like to be added to CCA's mailing list. Emais such as this will be fortnightly.

And we say goodbye to visiting photographer Nathalie Vera (Venezuela) and Reuters Reporter Enrique Andres (Spain).

We welcome Anne Walmsley and Stanley Greaves who will be hosting a Visual Arts Conversation with Chris Cozier in Alice Yard this month (see Exhibitions and Events)

Please be advised that 'Finding The Thread: A Visual Arts Conversation' has been further postponed until further notice. Anne Walmsley Farquahr is unable to travel at this time due to health concerns.

LIT: THE CONCEPT
Thursday 1st March, 2007 at 9pm
An Activist Concert at the UWI Quadrangle, at The University of The West Indies
Activist groups from around Trinidad and Tobago will meet to present ideas followed by a concert with the local acts "Surgeon Blade Panel" and "NatureDamus." Rapso group "Word, Sound and Power" will be delivering, and rock bands "Cabezon" and "Solaris" are also scheduled to perform.
Come and experience political and social commentary combined with powerful local music in a way you never have before.

OPPORTUNITIES

VISA FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS 2007 PROGRAMME
The residence, research and creation programs managed by CULTURESFRANCE are aimed at creators or researchers who are French or reside in France and wish to do a specific project abroad.

These programs cover the entire cultural gamut: theater, music, dance, scenography, architecture, urbanism, photography, plastic or applied arts, design, graphic arts, new images, and for some of them literature, research and audiovisual. The Visas pou la Creation Programme is intended for individual artists for up to 3 to 6 months from May to December 2007. Completed applications must be delivered to the French cultural organisation (French Cultural Centre or Alliance Francaise) in the applicant’s country or territory of residence.

They must also send this via email to visapourlacreation@culturesfrance.com.
Results will be notified exclusively by post at the end of April 2007.

ART AT MORE VINO

The Julia and David White Artists' Colony, Costa Rica
Devoted to the development of the arts, The Julia and David White Artists' Colony in Costa Rica invites professionally working artists from around the world to apply for an ongoing residency at the Colony. Visual artists are encouraged to bring all necessary materials with them as imported art supplies can be quite costly and time consuming to acquire. Sacatar/South residency programme calls for applications, Brazil
In partnership with the South Project the Instituto Sacatar is inviting established artists to submit applications for a two month international residency in Bahia, Brazil in 2008.By providing artists with a place to live and create new works, the Sacatar Instituto generates opportunities for its residents to interact and collaborate with the local and regional community. Artists are encouraged to work simply, with relatively few tools, materials or technologies, and to look to the local community and environment as his/her primary resources. www.sacatar.org . Residency opportunities at pARTage, Mauritius
Applications are open for artists from any field to participate in a 6 week residency at pARTage Mauritius, a studio that falls under the Triangle Arts Trust . Interested applicants are asked to submit a completed application form, curriculum vitae, 3 to 5 images of work ( jpeg format max 400kb each image), a motivational letter outlining the reasons for application and internet and a reference letter. The Commonwealth Arts and Craft Awards 2007
The Commonwealth Foundation invites artists from Commonwealth countries to participate in an opportunity in a biannual Art and Crafts Awards set to develop new skills, and encourage artists to gain international experience whilst sharing interacting with individuals from other cultures. The opportunity is open to professional artists and craftspeople aged 20 and 45.

VIDEOBRASIL International Electronic Art Festival
The 16th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival will take place in Sao Paulo Brazil in September 2007. The festival accepts submissions of works produced by artists from the southern circuit (Latin America, Caribe, Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Southeastern Asia and Oceania).
